I can’t think of anyone who hasn’t heard of Girls Scout Cookies. And not many of us can resist them! But how many of us know how the whole Girl Scout cookie craze started?
Back in 1922 a sugar cookie recipe was sent out in their seasonal newsletter along with a request to use it as the basis for fundraising. Every one of the 2000 scouts dutifully made at least one batch to sell. From there it quickly became a huge hit. I mean, who can resist a cookie!!!
Interestingly, there has only been one year that the Girl Scouts haven’t sold cookies. It was back in 1942 when WWII rationings of sugar, flour and butter made it impossible. That year they sold calendars. I can’t eat a calendar so Im very happy they went back to COOKIES!
