Spooky Cocktail & Movie Pairing

Spooky Cocktail & Movie Pairing

What better way to get in the spirit of Halloween than to cozy up and watch a scary movie? HDC is bringing you a fresh round of spooky cocktails inspired by some of the most wicked witches around. These chilling pairings are guaranteed to leave you feeling festive and frightened.

The Goblin & Gremlin's (1984)

2 oz BSB 103
1/2 oz Vanilla Syrup
1/2 oz heavy cream
1/8 tsp Matcha Tea powder
In a shaker, combine all ingredients, dry shake, then shake again with ice. Mesh strain into a cocktail goblet. Garnish with grated nutmeg.

A nice kick of caffeine and the higher proof sibling to the original BSB-Brown Sugar Bourbon; our BSB 103 in our Goblin Cocktail will keep you on the edge of your seat. Perfect energy boost and pairing with the movie Gremlins. This classic 80s Horror Film will remind you of how creative and witty the blockbusters of the time were. We can promise you that unlike the gremlins in the movie, this cocktail won’t turn on you. Just don’t drink it after midnight or expose it to light!

Bitter Bite & Nosferatu (1929)

2 dashes Bear Root Cacao/Coffee bitters
1/2 oz OJ
1/4 oz lemon juice
In a shaker, combine all ingredients over ice and shake.
Strain into a tumbler of ice. Garnish with a cherry

A "bitter start giving way to a great finish" sums up our next cocktail and visual pairing. The Bitter Bite fall cocktail is best enjoyed while taking in the visuals from the silent film Nosferatu. The uniquely creepy nature of Nosferatu throws you into the origin story of Dracula. Lacking the makings of a modern horror film, Nosferatu allows for a more palatable viewing experience for the more horror adverse audience.

Sweet Ghost & Halloween 2 (1981)

1/2 oz Pineapple Juice
1/2 oz Cranberry Juice
1/4 oz Lime Juice
1/4 oz Grenadine
In a shaker, combine all ingredients over ice. Add ice and shake.
Mesh strain into a daisy goblet. Garnish with a cherry.

For our Sweet Ghost cocktail, we suggest pairing your drink with the film Halloween 2. One of the greatest, most critically underrated scenes in the horror genre was the intro to Halloween 2 (claims John Farley, our HDC Graphic Designer). Sweet on the front end and with a nice kick on the back, our Sweet Ghost Pepper Vodka will help you forget how scary Halloween 2 is until Dr. Loomis reminds us “You don’t know what death is.”

BSB-O-Lantern & Sleepy Hollow (1999)

2 oz BSB 103
1/2 oz Ginger Beer
1/2 oz Apple Cider
1 tsp Pumpkin Puree
In a shaker, add all ingredients over ice and shake.
Mesh strain into a martini goblet.
Garnish with grated nutmeg.

Our suggested pairing for this quintessential fall mixer is yet another hit from the Hammer Horror Franchise titled, Sleepy Hollow. This 1999 film was directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp (need we say more)? The BSB-O-Lantern will transform your taste buds while the movie shocks your sensibilities at the sight of a Headless Horseman.

BSB Butterbeer & Abominable Snowman (1957)

3 oz Cream Soda
1 oz Ginger Beer
In a tumbler, combine all ingredients.
Gently stir in a dollop of BSB whipped cream on top.

While this drink was made popular by the Harry Potter series, it may upset you to know we are choosing to pair this fun drink with a lesser-known film from 1957 called, The Abominable Snowman. This fizzy whipped concoction which, spoiler alert, contains no actual butter, will make you feel as if you too are in the Himalayas searching for the elusive Yeti.
